'Bloated Belly' of a Transgender Man Turns Out to be a Baby

According to a report in News.com.au, a transgender man who continues to take testosterone for a long time presumed he was just overweight and lacks exercise, however it ended up he was expecting a baby.

29-year-old Kayden Coleman from Philadelphia was bewildered with a heavy tummy and back pain. He then joked that he needs to get a pregnancy test but it came back positive.

"I never thought about getting pregnant. Because of the male hormones, I didn't think it was a possibility. It was definitely a surprise," he told the Mirror Online.

A visit to the doctors verified Coleman was 21 weeks pregnant. Coleman was in luck that his bump may seem to have passed undetected to most of the people but he did get a number of puzzled looks.

Coleman said: "This woman in a shop said to me, 'Honey, you look like you're pregnant'. I just laughed and said, 'I am pregnant!' She didn't believe me."

The pregnancy have gone as normal however during the delivery of the baby in December 2013, it was a different story. Coleman labored for four days and was induced as he had high blood pressure. He didn't deal with discrimination from the hospital staff however felt his delivery was considered differently from other mothers.

"All the medical people were really nice but I did kind of feel like an experiment. While I was in labour, medical students kept coming in and out. It got to the point where I had to put my foot down and demand a c-section," Coleman quoted.

Coleman was undergoing the mastectomy or 'top surgery' as he calls it when he was expecting. Coleman has gone off his hormones in preparation for the surgery.

He says: "To have a mastectomy you have to be off hormones for six weeks."

Coleman delivered a healthy baby girl and they named her Azaelia who is now 22 months old.

Kayden says: "Now it feels great. I couldn't imagine, and don't want to imagine, life without her. She is amazing.

"She is an awesome kid. Very well-mannered. She's very sensitive but also very much like both of us. Her favourite word is, 'No!'
