Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Earn $95,000 For 'By The Sea' Debut

The latest movie of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt 'By The Sea' is finally in theaters. Despite the limited debut, the film still made it to the box office during the weekend.

'By The Sea' garnered a total earning of $95,000 from 10 theaters which is still considered high for a limited opening. But considering the caliber of the main actors of the film who are the power couple of Hollywood, the said earning is still below what is expected.

Compared to 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' which is the first film of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt together as a couple, the 'By The Sea' earning is low. The comedy action film was shown in around 3,441 theaters and collected a total of $50.3 million.

The couple also fell in love with each other while shooting for the movie in 2005. After 10 years, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are back together in a film but are no longer successful just like their first project.

In 2014, Angelina Jolie starred in the Disney film 'Maleficent' which had a $69 million during its debut. Her husband Brad Pitt on the other hand had a $66 million debut for his 'World War Z' film in 2013.

The newest film of the couple which is directed and written by Angelina Jolie herself never manage to earn even a million on its debut. Universal Pictures limited the production budget of the film to $10 million.

"Passion projects have always been a part of the Hollywood machinery and are a way for studios to show notable stars their unconditional love. They are most often films that are 'off the beaten path' for the stars who use these productions to tell a story that they are passionate about, but not necessarily aimed at a mass audience," explains Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst of Rentrak.
