Move over Chipotle, The Organic Coup is ready to take over the healthy fast food name. Last Tuesday, they became the first to become a USDA certified organic fast food restaurant according to Fox News.
Aiming to change industry standards when it comes to great food served fast, The Organic Coup offers a menu that is 95% organic. Everything from the chicken to the breads, vegetables, sides and even the sodas are all organic. This is a big move from Chipotle offering GMO-free food in their restaurant.
The concept for the restaurant started with Erica Welton being a former Costco buyer. Over the years she said that she noticed a trend of more and more buyers leaning towards healthy food choices and she knew this would only get bigger. She was then inspired by Chipotle's move to go GMO-free. Chipotle wasn't even the only one making this huge step, other restaurants were also chiming in. According to Quartz, LYFE Kitchen and Dig Inn also offered the best ingredients, although they weren't necessarily organic and V Burger offered vegan burger choices for its clients. But Welton thought it was time to go all the way and so she thought of going all organic for her fast food menu.
The organic fast food restaurant offers three items on the menu - the chicken sandwich, chicken wrap and chicken bowl. All these can be taken with a caramel-covered popcorn and soda. The price is a bit more than most fast food chains but that's the what you have to pay if you want healthier options.
Welton said that the restaurant is for everyone, moms and millennials, who want to have a healthier alternative to the typical fast food. Welton plans to open 25 more locations aside from the one in San Francisco and the future looks promising as it is already garnering a number of positive reviews online.
