In today's century, women are not only taking a lead in the office but on screen as well. And it's a good thing Olivia Munn is leading the parade for CW. Munn is currently looking at a 1970's profile for The CW.
In 2015, Munn co-starred in the film Mortdecai with Johnny Depp. Now, Munn is going to executive produce a new venture for CW. The project is still untitled however the setting is in 1974. The 1970's script centers around a young journalist that gets hired by a New York news program as a publicity stunt to be one of the first female sports on air reporters.
The Hollywood Reporter posted that Ted Humphrey, known for his work from The Good Wife, will make the script for the drama series and executive produce alongside Munn.
Munn is no stranger to the reporting scene. She was a sideline reporter herself in a college football and women's basketball, and was an intern at Fox Sports Net. However, she disliked the experience and made her uncomfortable trying to be something she is not.
A few years later, she co-hosted Attack of the Show in 2006 and became a Daily Show correspondent in 2010 to 2011. Perhaps, you may also remember her as a financial journalist in the drama The Newsroom.
Munn has the experience and background to help the series in the world of newscasting but she will not appear on-screen.
Stacia Peters will oversee the series. Peters worked on The Newsroom with Munn. The series is a move to join in on the issues surrounding underserved communities and exploring diversity.
The CW Network is known for popular television series such as Arrow, iZombie, Reign, The Flash and Supernatural.
If the series gets picked up, the show will follow gender politics in front and behind camera when the decade didn't allow women in the press, as stated in an exclusive confirmation from EW.
