X-Men Apocalypse Finally Reveals Synopsis

Comic fans have been speculating on the plot of X-Men: Apocalypse for months now; pouring over every new trailer, screencap, and cast interview in the hopes of piecing together what the film will be about. Now we finally have our answer.

Fox finally released the movie's official synopsis and it certainly sounds intriguing.

'Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.'

The franchise's big three of James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier,) Michael Fassbender (Magneto), and Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) are all coming back for this one. Joining them are returning faces such as Nicolas Hoult (Beast), Rose Byrne (Moira Mactaggert), Lucas Till (Havok), and Evan Peters (Quicksilver).

New names gracing this installment include Olivia Munn (Psylocke), Ben Hardy (Angel), Lana Condor (Jubilee), and Oscar Isaac as the titular villain Apocalypse.

Apocalypse is slated to be the final installment of the second X-Men trilogy that began with 2011's First Class and continued with last year's Days of Future Past.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, producer Simon Kinberg spoke of his desire to keep the team together for future films.

I would love to keep making movies with that cast. It's almost like the way the Star Wars movies now are. The Episodes are the mainline movies, and then you have the stand-alone movies. The X-Men flagship is [Michael] Fassbender, [James] McAvoy, Jen [Lawrence] and Nick Hoult, and then we have the stand-alone movies.

Whether that happens remains to be seen. For now, fans can look forward to May 27, 2016 which is the date when Apocalypse hits theatres.
