According to a groundbreaking new study, vitamin C has the ability to destroy and stop the growth of cancer cells in a person's body.
In the new study published in the journal Science, it was discovered that vitamin C is capable of destroying cancer cells especially for the case of colorectal cancers.
However, it should be clarified that the said research does not literally mean that cancer can be actually destroyed by drinking orange juice. The result only suggests that the said breakthrough is considered a leap forward in cancer research.
The study was conducted by feeding the sample mice with high dosage of Vitamin C. The mice which contain a KRAS or BRAF mutations of colorectal cancer were feed with a high dosage of Ascorbic acid that is equivalent to 300 oranges.
The result shows that high dosage of Vitamin C slowed down the growth of tumor in mice. The said tumors were said to carry a common mutation which will eventually cause the spreading of colorectal cancer in the body.
Scientists have not yet tested the study to humans but they are hopeful that the said result will be applicable also to man. Assuming that the result will be successful, the new study will then offer vast treatment methods to successfully prevent the growth of cancer cells.
In a statement, the American Association for the Advancement of Science clarified that the said study should undergo more testing in order to achieve a precise and accurate results.
"The idea that vitamin C could be an effective therapy for human cancer holds great appeal, but its track record in this arena has been highly controversial, with clinical studies producing contradictory results," stated by AAAS .
The idea of treating cancer with Vitamin C first started in 1971 when chemist Linus Pauling was awarded by Nobel price as he successfully treat cancer patients with Vitamin C pills. However, the study eventually failed after two clinical trials.
