Aging: You Are Not Supposed To Lose Everything With These Foods

The Huffington Post - Next Avenue, the only national service for America's booming 50+ population, released November 3 their list of 2015 Influencers in Aging-its first annual list recognizing 50 inspiring thought leaders, doctors, authors, experts and innovators who are changing how we age and think about aging.

As part of the project Next Avenue asked each honouree to answer the question: "If you could change one thing about aging in America, what would it be?" Vickie Elisa, who advocates women's independence, said, "I would work to change the perception that you are supposed to lose everything-your looks, sexiness, brain matter and value."

Yes, you read that right from one of the great influencers in the world. Aging does not mean you have to lose your younger beauty. Nutritionist Dana James also agrees to this as she provides a list of foods to add to your anti-aging diet:

1.       Avocado

This green fruit contains mono-unsaturated fat...which is a good thing. The healthy fat protects cells from radical damage, thus enhancing vitality and mental acuity. Yes, brain matter remains for aging people. It also improves skin texture so you can say good-bye to your wrinkles.

2.       Turmeric

This yellow-pigmented ginger variety has become famous for its anti-cancer properties. It enhances the body's synthesis of antioxidants and protects brain cells from damage.

3.       Green Vegetable Juice

You can use cucumber, fennel, mint, kiwi and lime to blend your citrusy juice. It will give complete antioxidants, phytonutrients, enzymes, oxygen, chlorophyll, vitamins and minerals that your body need at your age. An eight-ounce juice equals to two large salads!

4.       Arctic Char

This not-so-famous BUT miracle fish gives you all the same benefits of salmon. The omega-3 fat in it improves the integrity of brain cells, which helps enhance the mental health. Char also has carotenoids, which is usually found in carrots, which improve eyesight.

5.       Hijiki

This black sea vegetable has 40 percent fiber that regulates hormones and enhances liver detoxification. It boosts metabolism and can be a substitute for pasta.

6.       Hemp Seeds

Three tablespoons of hemp seeds contain 15 grams of protein that helps in synthesizing collagen and elastin for a firm and supple skin.

7.       Chlorophyll

It is the green pigment in all green plants and can be bought in a concentrated liquid form made from nettle leaves. It helps remove toxins from the body and improves vitality.
