Jessica Mauboy has finally spoke about her Melbourne Cup no-show and revealed it was due to a panic attack.
The 26 year old pop singer, was supposed to sing the national anthem at Flemington on Tuesday, but was replaced by a back-up singer, Nadia Aya at the last minute after she mysteriously failed to appear on stage.
Mauboy's Management team has since then released a statement, explaining why she called off her scheduled performance, citing there was a "miscommunication with her styling team" that cause the cancellation of her appearance. But still there was floating speculations roaming around, including a purported dispute between her sponsors that caused the cancellation.
Now, Jessica has finally opened up to dispel the circulating rumors and revealed that she suffered a panic attack by the time she was about to hit the stage.
"Four minutes before I am about to be walked out from the green room, people on one side are bickering with people on another side and it started to suffocate me, it was crazy and I didn't know what to do," Mauboy revealed to News Ltd, according to skynews.
She further admitted that it was the "scariest" moment of her life and explained "All I could feel was all the bad energy coming from people, time stopped and I could see it all going on around me, I could see me stuck on the lounge and I'm thinking Why aren't you getting up and getting going?' It was really horrible."
Jessica said she tried to pull herself back together but can't focus anymore. "I should have been prepared to just walk on stage and do my job, the job I love and they didn't allow me to do that," she added.
The dispute over Mauboy's wardrobe was not undisclosed. However, the Guardian reported, Jessica's outfit at that time was chosen by her management team and it is believed it has been approved by the Victorian Racing Club. But Mauboy's brand sponsors distanced themselves from the matter and said the issue should be handle by the VRC.
