Liam Payne Admits He Is 'Absolutely Devastated' After Breakup With Sophia Smith

He absolutely needs a break. Following earlier reports on Liam Payne and Sophia Smith's breakup, the singer has finally opened up about his heartbreak for the first time. During his recent interview, Payne revealed being totally "devastated" with the breakup, adding that the aftermath things were actually "so hard", reports say.

While the now four-piece band might be having a hard time saying goodbye from the limelight for the meantime, it seems like everything turned out to be a lot harder for Liam and he definitely needs to give his heart some break.

"I'm absolutely devastated to have split with Sophia," Payn said in a statement before kicking off the band's final tour stop last weekend. "Being on tour all this year and being away from her was so hard. We spent so much time apart.

He continued, "But in order to do right by somebody, sometimes it's better not to do what your heart wants, but to do what's better for them."

Now that their last concert for the year is completed, the band is already getting ready for the upcoming release of their last album "Made in the A.M". Reports say that after launching the album, One Direction will make time for some promotion and the break will follow after.

When being asked about how he will spend his time off from work, Payne replied "Right now, I'm looking forward to some alone time to figure out who I am and what I want to be." Payne also added that he has plans to push through some work in "publishing, collaborating and writing songs for other artists."

Reports say that Sophia Smith decided to call it quits after more than two years of being together. "Sophia felt that their relationship was at a point where they either made a decision to get married and settle down or they go and do something else and experience more of the world." a source said.

The source went on saying, "She chose the latter because she's still so young. Sophia has always been an independent woman and believes she has a lot to achieve. She wants to remain amicable with Liam, but knows that'll be harder now."

One Direction's upcoming album "Made in the A.M" is set to release on November 13, Friday.
