Experts Warn Parents About The Dangers Of Halloween On Kids

Celebrating Halloween is undeniably a fun experience especially for the kids. With the expected 41 million trick-or-treaters that will participate in the annual event, the celebration is expected to be big.

Though Halloween might be one of the most exciting events of the year, authorities have issued a clear warning to the people especially to the parents of the kids to be careful in order to avoid accidents.

Halloween does not only sound scary because of the ghost stories that are usually brought up but also because of the danger it can cause to children. Experts recommended to check on the mask and costumes that the kids will be using. Wearing of uncomfortable attires and huge costumes might cause children to fall and serious injuries.

Dan Stark, who is a personal safety expert, advised parents to check the costume's material.

"When I tell people to go out and look for a costume, make sure it's fire resistant," warned Stark.

Experts also recommended everyone to avoid wearing make-up or face paint if possible.

Besides minor dangers, car accident is one of most fearful thing to happen during the Halloween. Since kids are out for a long period of time to collect for their candies, they are more prone to getting hit by a car.

This was confirmed by the chairwoman of the American College of Emergency Physicians' board of directors Dr. Rebecca Parker. "This is a time when we see an increase of kids being hit and killed by cars," says Dr. Parker.

According to the organization Safe Kids USA, more kids are being hit by cars during Halloween compared to the other times of the year. Usually, accidents happen between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. because of the roads' visibility during this period. Also, kids are wearing masks won't be able to see the cars clearly on the streets.

In addition, an estimate of 800 children get glow stick-related injuries annually.

To be safe, experts recommend parents to be cautious and constantly check on their kids.
