A film adaptation of Paula Hawkins' best selling book is scheduled to be released next year. Emily Blunt, the Edge of Tomorrow and Sicario star has already signed on as the lead actress in the book turned film, titled "The Girl on the Train." DreamWorks Pictures has already acquired the rights to the film, Time released.
Emily Blunt will be playing Rachel Watson. The British actress will take on the role of a 32 year old alcoholic going through a recent devastating divorce, who thinks she witnessed a crime in a house she passes by from her daily London commute through her train window. The plot thickens when Rachel sets out to investigate the disappearance of the woman involved in the crime. She does this while battling her alcoholism and continuous black outs.
Other than Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson and Haley Bennett will be joining the cast. Variety also has it that Jared Leto, Justin Theroux and Chris Evans are already in talks to join Blunt and the rest of the cast. That'd be an exciting and electric mix of cast members if the boys will join in. Tate Taylor, director of "The Help", will be directing the film.
Paula Hawkins' first ever mystery novel was previously compared to Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl because of the similarities. It's been called "The Next Gone Girl."
The book debuted on January 13, 2015 and then topped The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers of 2015 in February 2015. It stayed there for 13 consecutive weeks. By March 2015, the book had sold more than 1 million copies and 1.5 million copies in April. Moving further, it sold over 3 million copies by August 2015.
Disney has already scheduled the release of the drama-film on October 7, 2016 under DreamWorks Pictures back in March 24, 2015 for Marc Platt Productions. The book has initially set the location in England but the film will settle in the U.S.
