The American film studio - 20th Century Fox, got on board Laverne Cox, an actress, reality television star and producer. She will be the new Dr. Frank-N-Furter - in a reboot of the musical horror comedy film 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show.'
The co-star of the comedy-drama series Orange is the New Black, will portray the sexually ambiguous Transylvanian mad alien scientist. The iconic character was previously immortalized by the British actor and singer known for his work in a diverse range of theatre and film - Tim Curry, in the 1975 Rocky Horror midnight movie sensation. It was a film publicly acknowledged with a record of 40 years of theatrical distribution, a longer stretch than any other movie in history.
Kenny Ortega will helm, choreograph and serve as an executive producer on the two-hour television event of 20th Century Fox - along with other executive producers, including Lou Adler (owner of the famous Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood) and the co-owner and founding partner of The Jackal Group - Gail Berman.
As stated by Fox, the upcoming Rocky Horror "follows sweethearts Janet Weiss and Brad Majors, who stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter's very strange place of residence. Frank-N-Furter, a sexually ambiguous flirtatious mad alien mad-scientist, is holding an annual, Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of 'Rocky Horror' - a fit, attractive man created solely to fulfill Frank's strong feeling of wanting."
On Orange is the New Black, Laverne Cox became the first openly transgender woman of color to have a major character in a mainstream scripted television series. And just last year, Laverne Cox became the first transgender person to be given a prime-time Emmy nomination in an acting category.
Cox was also featured on the cover of Time magazine for her character in the transgender movement besides EW.
Adding up to Laverne Cox's plaudits, the Alabama born actress has been casted in the legal drama pilot Doubt, which is being developed differently in the commercial broadcast television and radio network - CBS.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is slated to debut next fall - 2016.
