Shark Tan investor, Mark Cuban, describes how the Dallas Mavericks have become a product of technology. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal's WSJD Live, Cuban, who owns Dallas Mavericks, described how the team has become a technology product.
As reported in the Business Insider, the interview has revealed how Cuban manages the team. When he was asked how his ownership style has evolved since he bought the majority stake in the Mavericks in 2000, Cuban laughed in response. He answered that he has not matured since. However the way he thinks about the team has changed a lot over the years.
"I think what's really changed is the Mavs have become a technology product," he said. "Before I would worry about putting together the right players. Now we focus much more on analytics and biometrics, too. The things that we're doing with the Mavericks will create changes."
In one of their strategies, Cuban said that the team very closely monitors the way the players run as their running style influences whether or not they are going to develop inflammation later in life or at what stage they will develop it.
The goal of the biometric tracking, he further explained, is to find out how to make sure that one player can currently play until he is in his 40s. Notable, the Mavericks' first round this year is in his 20s and this can help determine how the player can continue playing until he's twice his current age.
Furthermore, he also mentioned taking care of the players' mental health. He now focuses a lot on mental health for the Mavericks. The team was reported to hire a team psychologist. Notably, the years when the team didn't have one were the most difficult years the team has had he says.
Handling a basketball no longer involves management and strategy skills. It also involves a lot of biometrics and psychological to successfully handle a team as proven by Mark Cuban.
