A new coffee shop in New York City, is serving up coffee and love. According to the New York Post, the shop, Matchmaker Cafe, is promising "real dates, at a real cafe."
When a customer enters the pop-up cafe, they speak to barrista, who is willing to dole out some servings of love. They, help customers look through a database of other single coffee shop goers and offer advice during the process.
According to the Post, the difference between the cafe dating base and online dating is that the barristas get to know people, and can help guide individuals through the process.
"There's nothing like real human connection," founder Nancy Slotnik said. "You can have all of the online stuff, and technology does make it much more efficient to connect, but ultimately you have to meet,"
Slotnik said the program accepts everything from sequins to cowboy hats to attract potential clients. Since the cafe opened on July 8, more than 5,000 people have signed up, according to the Post.
Slotnik, who meet her husband on the street, wishes dating was simpler for everyone.
"Don't you wish you could go up to them?" Slotnik told the New York Post. "Or have a matchmaker like me go up to them! It's [a way to connect with] all those people in your neighborhood you might be too shy to meet."
Some New Yorkers are a bit skeptical about the new dating approach.
"I would be open to this only if the barista was a close friend and all the other cafe patrons were also close friends," Megan Zilis, a 29-year-old account executive from the Upper East Side, told the New York Post.
The cafe is located on 75 Wall Street.
