Avril Lavigne Launches Campaign To Help Young Victims Of Lyme Disease

Avril Lavigne, who recently opened up that she's battling with Lyme disease has launched campaign to raise money for the people who are suffering from the same disease.

Lavigne, who just turned 31 on Sunday, decided to make her birthday special by launching a five day campaign for this purpose. She worked with Prizeo, a digital fundraising platform. They will raise money for the 'Avril Lavigne Foundation.' One lucky fan who donates to her foundation can be chosen to win a speaking role in her new animated film 'Charming.'

The campaign aims to raise awareness about Lyme disease as well as to provide health care assistance for the young and adults who suffer from the disease.

In a statement, the Canadian pop star said she's excited "that this year's campaign is supporting people with Lyme disease and helping others to better understand this issue."

"My fans are always so supportive and ready to give back; I look forward to coming together for an issue that's so close to me," she added.

In a blog post, Lavigne announced the news, "This year, we're raising funds to support a cause that's very important to me personally: helping people with Lyme Disease - who could not otherwise afford treatment - get the care they need."

"Only a small percent of people get the early diagnosis and treatment that is so important in fighting the disease. I am asking you to join me in helping people receive the treatment they need. So please donate, tell your friends and post about the campaign!"

It was in June when Lavigne went public with the diagnosis of her Lyme disease after keeping quiet about it for some time. She opened up to Good Morning America in a tearful interview, she talked about her struggle with the severe disease.

Lavigne also admitted to PEOPLE magazine that there was a time when she thought she was going to die. During her recovery period, there were times when she had a hard time breathing and she couldn't move.
