Fox's attempt at rebooting Marvel's Fantastic Four was one of the summer's biggest flops. The Josh Trank directed film sits at an abysmal 27% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, and has pulled in just $160M at the global box office. The movie cost a reported $120M to make.
News of the film's failure hasn't been lost to its stars either. Actress Kate Mara, who plays Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, recently spoke up regarding the fiasco, saying she hasn't even seen the final cut yet.
She told the Times in a recent interview:
"You don't always have to learn some incredible life lesson when making a s*** movie. Sometimes it's just what happens."
She says that the bad press has made her a 'little bit gun-shy' about seeing the movie, but that doesn't mean she's written it off forever.
The entire interview is only available to Times' subscribers, but the AV Club was able to secure some quotes from the piece. Here's what Mara had to say about the experience:
"It was a tricky shoot, but you know...When you know when you're shooting it that a film isn't going to be what you want it to be? That was not the case at all."
She also said that she was 'highly disappointed' with director Josh Trank's twitter outburst during the film's opening week where he blamed studio interference for the terrible reception it got from fans and critics.
Both Fox and Fantastic Four producer Simon Kinberg have said that this film's failure isn't the end of the franchise and that both are committed to making more movies with these characters.
Mara says, "We have no idea if we'll ever make another one."
Hopefully Mara can bounce back when her next film, Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic The Martian, hits theatres later this year.
