Ever wondered what goes through the minds of the music industry's movers and shakers? Billboard gives us a glimpse into just that with their inaugural survey of top record executives. The study looked at a wide range of topics ranging from their opinions on Taylor Swift to their thoughts on the rise of music streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. Here's a taste of some of the most interesting finds.
Billboard's findings show that many in the industry hold Taylor Swift in high regard. The pop princess was the consensus first pick by many if they could sign any artist of their choosing. The results also showed that 70% of respondents are 'rooting' for her.
An anonymous respondent is optimistic that Swift can continue her chart topping success for at least a couple more albums.
If Swift's career suffers a downturn many believe she could shift to the business side of things. She came in tied with mega-hit maker Scooter Braun in the question 'who should be running a music company, but isn't?'
When it came to which genre of music they 'despised' the most, most respondents answered with Rap. EDM and Pop came in at number 2 and 3.
On the topic of music streaming, 54% off the executives polled said they would be willing to ditch their jobs for a similar paying position at either Apple or Spotify.
That good faith did not extend to Jay-Z's Tidal however. The upstart streaming service is on life support according to the survey, with a staggering 71% of respondents giving it less than a year to stay in business.
