'MY Kitchen Rules' celebrity chef, Pete Evans has defended a recipe book that urges mother to replace breastmilk with paleo formula for infants.
Paleo advocate Pete Evan, along with naturopath Helen Padarin and blogger of baby recipe Charlotte Carr wrote a book, entitled, 'Bubba Yum Yum: The Paleo Way For New Mums, Babies and Toddlers'
But eventually the book that encourages mothers to replace breastmilk with paleo formula was surrounded with claims that the recipe book could kill an infant.
On Sunday night, Evans talks about his book with Journalist Mike Willesee, according to CQ News.
Dieticians Association of Australia as well as Professor in public and population health, Heather Yeatman raised concerns about the book's recommendation, of paleo 'DIY formula.' Claiming that to be "similar to breastmilk but had 879% more salt, 1067% more iron and 2326% more Vitamin B12."
The book also included some recipes that highlights, giving children runny eggs, raw liver and honey. But the associations raised concerns that the recommended recipe would just increase the risks of "botulism and salmonella."
But during the interview, the 'MY Kitchen Rules' chef said there is nothing to be worry about.
He said, "This recipe has been in print, in publication, for over 20 years, in America."
Claiming that the recipe was already in a book before.
He explains, "It's been in a book called Nourishing Traditions.
"We even halve the amount of liver that was in the original recipe and this book has been... I think it's sold a million copies and never once was there any issue with it.
"There's no recorded case of harm from that one recipe".
Evan also said that his book is already available online and will be out later this year.
Adding that the reason for the delay is "our publisher got nervous".
