Steven Moffat of ‘Doctor Who' Shuts Down a Big Maisie Williams Rumor

On Friday, on stage at the Television Critics Assn. Press tour in Beverly Hills, Steven Moffat, ashowrunner of much-loved BBC series "Doctor Who," tackled the show's rumors. Steven Moffat was joined by stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, Moffat talked about Maisie Williams' much speculated role in the new season of Doctor Who.

Rumors have been buzzing around the internet about Maisie Williams who will play the Doctor's granddaughter Susan Foreman. The Doctor's granddaughter role was played by actress Carole Ann Ford in the original series from 1963 to 1964.

The Scottish television writer and producer Steven Moffat, stated, "One thing I think is worth saying because it keeps coming up as an issue: She is not playing a returning character," showrunner Steven Moffat also said, "She is a brand new character. She's not someone from the Doctor's past -- unless I'm lying. ... It's a significant role. We are not throwing her away. You know, we are not just getting the star value and doing nothing with it. It's a great part, and she's terrific in it. But I would say it will develop in unexpected ways."

Rumors also float if there was a planned for a "Doctor Who" movie.

Steven Moffat said about the "Doctor Who" movie rumors, "The thing about the film, it's not actually up to me," Moffat also said, "That's up to the BBC. To say the least I don't own Doctor Who.... What are we going to do -- shut down for a year and make a movie? Does everyone really want that? One movie instead of a whole series? Or the idea that I've always been incredibly resistant to, and you'll be glad to know, Pete, is the idea that you would have a different Doctor in the movie because I think that would just be incredibly damaging to the franchise. You can't have two James Bonds at the same time."
