'Batman V Superman' News: Ben Affleck And Zack Snyder Talk About Older Bruce Wayne And Why He Is In 'Suicide Squad'

The release of the 'Batman v Superman' Comic-Con trailer revealed several details about 'Dawn of Justice,' including a glimpse at Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Thomas Wayne.

The trailer also showed that Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) is much older than the previous Batman incarnations and the Robin suit vandalized by a villain (possibly the Joker).

Affleck and 'Batman v Superman' director Zack Snyder were interviewed for Empire Magazine, where they both discussed the age and history of Bruce Wayne.

"We are playing him 45 or 46," Snyder told the magazine. "He has been Batman for 20 years. All the history is there."

He also addressed the Boy Wonder question. "Was there a Robin at one time? Possibly. He has lost those near and dear to him, and not necessarily from old age of disease..."

It looks like Snyder's statement confirmed that Robin dies tragically in the film.

Ben Affleck admits that he wasn't sure about taking the Batman role, but Zack Snyder had a great idea.

"Initially I thought, 'I'm older, it doesn't seem like the right sort of fit for me,'" he said. "Then Zack pitched me his concept for this older, more broken, kind of f--ked up Batman. It was something we haven't seen."

How would this Batman be different than the others? Affleck reveals it is because of a new threat.

"We have seen that Batman is willing to cross the line to protect people," he said. "That vigilantism has been a part of his character all along, and we are tapping into that mentality when faced by something as potentially as deadly a Superman."

Bruce Wayne's history will actually be essential in connecting 'Batman v Superman' with the next DC flick 'Suicide Squad,' which will feature his arch nemesis Joker. Empire Magazine reveals that Batman is the one who brought the villains to Arkham Asylum, and might not be too happy about seeing Harley Quinn and the gang being set loose.
