There's currently a new massive wave of fast food resurgence in the South Asian country, as major chains like Wendy's and Burger King step up to the plate with vegetarian options for the mostly non beef-eating consumers in the country - but, in the meantime, the most famous fried chicken chain, KFC India, gets to ride with train travelers.
Following the footsteps of Domino's (a competitor to another Yum! Brands chain, Pizza Hut), KFC India has now officially partnered up with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, IRTCT, in a new venture that will allow those who travel through this medium to try the chain's fried chicken menu on trains.
According to India Times, since last Monday, KFC India has been serving their menus on 12 trains passing through New Delhi's station, and they will be expanding to railway stations in Bangalore (Yeshwantpur), Vishakhapatnam and Hyderabad within the next 10 days.
For now, the service will be only available in those trains lacking pantry cars, but there are plans to expand further to trains such as Duronto and Rajdhani in the future.
The Indian Express reports that, to place their order for their travel, customers will have to visit IRCTC's website or call 18001034139, with KFC India then sending the customer a password through their mobile phone, a code that will later have to be given during the moment of delivery.
"As a much-loved restaurant brand, we think that this initiative gives us a great opportunity to bring the craveable taste and quality of KFC to our fans, even when they are travelling. We intend to expand the service to other stations over the next few days," said Dhruv Kaul, KFC India's Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), according to IBN Live.
Besides the partnership with KFC India and Domino's, it's rumored that IRTCT is also in talks to provide similar services through other chains like Pizza Hut and Subway.
