Ava Marie DuVernay is an American director, screenwriter, film marketer, and film distributor - and won the Best Director Prize for her second feature film Middle of Nowhere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The movie Selma movie of 2014 is where Ava DuVernay is most known for.
Director Ava DuVernay provided a definitive answer that she wouldn't be directing the Marvel film Black Panther, even when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed a meeting with her last week.
Director Ava DuVernay stated, "I'm not signing on to direct Black Panther," Ava DuVernay also added, "I think I'll just say we had different ideas about what the story would be. Marvel has a certain way of doing things and I think they're fantastic and a lot of people love what they do. I loved that they reached out to me."
DuVernay said that, she and Marvel Studios have no hard feelings regarding the issue, DuVernay stated: "I loved meeting Chadwick (Boseman) and writers and all the Marvel execs," DuVernay also said: "In the end, it comes down to story and perspective. And we just didn't see eye to eye. Better for me to realize that now than cite creative differences later ... I love the character of Black Panther, the nation of Wakanda and all that could be visually. I wish them well and will be first in line to see it."
Black Panther will set to star Chadwick Boseman as the title hero. Mark Bailey is currently writing the script for the film and is set to hit theaters on July 6, 2018. As Captain America: Civil War, is slated to debut in theaters May 6, 2016 - Chadwick Boseman will be debuting as the character Black Panther.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that they have met "a number of people" who might take the position in directing the Black Panther movie.
Feige stated, "We need to find the best director for any given movie, and that's really where we always start," president Feige also said: "If diversity is part of that, it's great. It's important. You will start to see things across the industry as a whole change as more filmmakers come up through the ranks and become part of making movies like this."
