The Nevada State announced their plans to construct the first Electric Highway, being made ready for theuse of Tesla's gigafactory grand opening. The plan was revealed earlier this week by Governor Brian Sandoval and the partner NV Energy, and was aimed to convince drivers of 'electric vehicles' that they can drive the distance with the comfort of these facilities.
Driving in the world famous US Route 95, the Nevada Electric Highway will run along Reno and Las Vegas then pass through the desert landscape with small populations. Essentially the Nevada Electric Highway is a network of charging stations.
The Nevada state currently has 1,400 EV (electric vehicles) registered, with the response to the fast construction of Tesla Motors' gigafactory in Reno. As soon as the factory begins their operation the numbers of EV will jump sky-high. The Nevada officials have confidence investing in the facilities that accommodate electric vehicles, in order to make the state more prosperous.
Gov. Brian Sandoval stated: "We've all driven this road before and have anxiety (even) with getting gas," and Sandoval added: "Now we can have confidence to charge our electric vehicles and drive them from place to place (in Nevada)."
If the Nevada state will purchase charging station that does not feature a fast charging option, it will cost a minimum of $6,000 up to $30,000, with free installation for the host businesses. And the charging station is equipped with Level 2 chargers, with the additional one Direct Current or DC Fast Charger the charging of which will only take less than an hour.
Nevada Governor Sandoval said: "This is a big deal for us to be able to invite visitors who are going to be using this type of transportation. The moment they cross that state line, to have that complete confidence that no matter where they are in our great state, they'll be able to charge their vehicles."
