Square Enix let attendees at this year's E3 event that the new console RPG that they are working on is codenamed 'Project Setsuna,' which is expected to be released in 2016. The newly-established studio first revealed plans in March this year.
Yosuke Matsuda, chief executive of Square Enix, concluded the company's press conference with a short preview of the new title. He emphasized that the game is 'all-new', which means that it will not be a spin-off of an existing property.
Although this is disappointing to Chrono Trigger fans who were expecting there would be a sequel of their favorite game, the title would be the start of a new series which would be more exciting for the gaming community.
"RPG fans from all over the world have supported us along the years. To keep creating incredible new RPG titles, we started Project SETSUNA and it is developed by Tokyo RPG Factory, a newly established studio for the project," Yosuke added.
The game details and platforms are yet to be released, but according to the gaming company, 'the good old days' of Japanese role playing games are coming back. They also said that this is their gift to all dedicated RPG fans.
Considering the focus of the Final Fantasy 7 HD remake, some people are still relieved that Square Enix is also developing new content rather than concentrating on old games, although the FF7 game is pretty popular to hardcore gamers.
Square Enix also revealed popular games, such as Just Cause 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy 7 remake, Kingdom Hearts 3: Unchained, and Final Fantasy Worlds in the E3 event.
Just Cause showcased a spectacular improvement in their game settings and upgraded tools as the new trailer presented a new, thrilling gameplay. It will be released in North America on December 1 for the Xbox One, PS 4, and PC.
