Sony's briefing at this Electronic Entertainment Expo was a mix of old and new. The company's latest console, the Playstation 4, has dominated sales charts around the globe so far, and Sony wants to keep that momentum going with big software releases and exclusive content deals with major publishers.

One such exclusive partnership was the one Sony just forged with Activision and Call of Duty. Long a staple of Microsoft's Xbox presentations in recent years, it now seems Sony has secured the right to receive the smash hit shooter franchise's downloadable content and expansions ahead of its rivals. The next game in the series Call of Duty: Black Ops III was also showcased at the presentation.

Activision's other big shooter is also getting the Playstation first treatment. Sci-fi shoot and loot Destiny's latest expansion 'The Taken King' will arrive first on Playstation 4. The new add on is slated to arrive on September 15, 2015 and will come with PS4 exclusive content.

For new franchises, Sony unveiled Horizon from Killzone Developer, Guerilla Games. The game is a third person open world adventure set in a futuristic wilderness filled with Transformer like robot dinosaurs. The gameplay footage showcased a bow and arrow wielding female protagonist doing battle against the menacing machines.

Little Big Planet developer Media Molecule also has a new IP in the works. Entitled 'Dreams', the game looks to continue the company's streak of innovative, original ideas that promote user creativity.

Sony also revealed that two classic franchises will get new entries. The first was the reveal of Shenmue 3. The Dreamcast cult classic is finally getting a new entry, within hours of the announcement, fans flooded Kickstarter to fund the game.

The second is long awaited Final Fantasy VII remake. Which will come first to PS4.

No Man's Sky, another staple at Sony's recent briefings, got another gameplay demo and developer Sean Murray promised that a release date is coming soon.

The conference ended with Sony's heavy hitter, Uncharted 4. The jaw dropping game demo showcased the games incredible visuals and sprawling environments. The game also featured an intense driving segment. The wait for the game's release in 2016 will no doubt be agony for fans.
