The countdown to the final installement of the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise is finally underway. Lionsgate studios officially released the first of, what is sure to be many, promotional materials for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 on the film's official Facebook page yesterday.
The teaser is a poster of a statue of Donald's Sutherland's character President Coriolanus Snow the main antagonist of the series. The statue has been vandalized and smashed to pieces, with the Mockingjay symbol spray painted behind the rubble. No doubt a symbol for the continuing revolution that was instigated in the first Mockingjay film.
The photos caption also encourages viewers to visit the URL www.TheCapitol.PN. Upon clicking, visitors are sent to a website seemingly created by the film's fictional government. It features bits of propaganda as well as a small selection of videos and profiles which help flesh out the Hunger Games Universe even more.
Another tie-in website called www.revolution.pn has also emerged. This site takes the side of the resistance and implores visitors to 'Take a Stand.' The site was first discovered when the film's twitter page, in a bit of social media marketing, appeared to have been taken over by Resistance members themselves.
Mockingjay Part 2 arrives in 2D, 3D, and IMAX theaters worldwide on November 2, 2015. Academy winner Jennifer Lawrence will reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen, the teen heroine at the centre of the story's conflict as she looks to overthrow the oppressive government of Panem led by Donald Sutherland as President Snow. Joining her is an all-star cast which includes Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Melark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, and Woody Harrelson as mentor Haymitch Abernathy. The late Philip Seymour Hoffman is also slated to appear in the film. Perhaps the last time audiences can see the Academy Award Winner on the big screen.
