Pharrell Williams Named 'Fashion Icon' by CFDA, Accepts Award in Blue Jeans

Eleven time Grammy award winner Pharrell Williams can now add the title of Fashion Icon to his list of accomplishments. The well-known producer/singer/songwriter was bestowed the Fashion Icon award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America during a star studded awards ceremony held yesterday at New York's Lincoln Center.

Showing why he deserves the title, Williams arrived at the black tie event in a simple blue biker jacket and jeans while opting to leave his trademark hat at home. In attendance to see Williams receive the prestigious award was his friend and fellow musician turned fashion designer Kanye West who had this to say about the night's honoree:

"It is very difficult to break perception," West said. "Fashion had to be the hardest high school I ever entered. At least I had a big brother," he said, referring to Pharrell, who "talked me through it and kept me going."

A constant eye catcher on red carpets around the world, Pharrell joins an exclusive club that counts Lady Gaga, Kate Moss, Johnny Depp, and Rihanna as past winners.

As per the CFDA's official website, "The Fashion Icon Award is given to an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage."

The 42 year old Williams certainly fits that description. Aside from his prolific musical output, he has ventured into the fashion industry numerous times. His most notable endeavour being the two street wear brands he founded in collaboration with Japanese fashion designer Nigo, Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream.

These days Pharrell runs a multimedia collective called 'I Am Other' which has released collaborations with fast fashion titan Uniqlo. Recently, Williams has also released a well received collaboration with sportswear giant Adidas.
