Samsung has enlisted the aid of Earth's mightiest heroes for a special, limited edition iteration of its flagship Galaxy S6 edge smartphone. Dubbed the Iron Man edition, the phone is decked out in the red and gold colour scheme of none other than Marvel Comics' Tony Stark. The phone is part of the mobile giant's long standing tie in with Disney's blockbuster Avenger franchise. The latest film in the series, Avengers: Age of Ultron, has already grossed a staggering $1.2bn dollars in worldwide box office receipts.
However there's more to this phone than simply a different color scheme. The special S6 edge features an Iron Man stencil on the back of the phone and a unique Iron Man theme in its menus. Even the phone's battery charger has been given the Iron Man treatment. The standard charger has been replaced with a wireless charging solution that resembles an Arc Reactor, the glowing device that powers Tony Stark's myriad number of Iron Man suits in the comics and movies. Other features include 64GB of memory storage and a special clear case to protect the limited edition phone. All of this comes packaged in a special Iron Man box.
The Iron Man announcement is a bit of good news for Samsung, as the South Korean company recently revealed that after a month on the market, sales of its latest S6 line of products, which include the S6 Edge and the standard S6, have fallen short of their expectations. Forbes reports that only 10 million S6 and S6 edge units were launched, which makes the 70 million target set by Samsung almost unattainable as compared to the other much awaited smartphones like Samsung's own Note 5 and Apple's yearly iPhone revision, set to arrive later this year.
