Nina Simone Movie: After Sundance Success, Watch Netflix’s Nina Simone Documentary CHILLING Trailer [VIDEO]

One of the most powerful voices to grace music in the 20th century, there's been a new wave of love towards the "I Put A Spell On You" performer over the past few years, with an upcoming Nina Simone movie starring Zoe Saldana and a new documentary released by Netflix.

Often dubbed "The High Priestess of Soul," there's little surprise that there are at least two upcoming Nina Simone movies in the works, but the first of them, a documentary that opened the last edition of the Sundance Film Festival and is currently set on Netflix, just got its official trailer.

According to The Verge, the new Nina Simone movie, entitled "What Happened, Miss Simone?" has been part of a number of notorious festivals in the past few months, including not only Sundance but also the prestigious Berlin Film Festival (popularly called the Berlinale).

The Nina Simone movie is part of a new effort by Netflix to expand further on their production company, after the success of their shows like "Orange is the New Black" and "House of Cards" - last year, the Leonardo DiCaprio-produced Netflix documentary "Virunga" gathered an Academy Award nomination.

Rolling Stone Magazine reports that the Nina Simone movie is comprised of archive footage, rare recordings and Simone's hits, as, through editing, the "Sinner Man" performer tells her life's story herself - with a little help from those close to her, including her daughter Lisa Simone Kelly.

As Pitchfork reports, "What Happened, Miss Simone?" (which takes its title from a Maya Angelou quote) is fully authorized by the singer's estate, and it features three decades' worth of interviews with Simone, who passed away in the spring of 2003.

Liz Garbus, an experienced documentary director and producer, was the one behind the film, following her 1999 Oscar nomination for "The Farm: Angola, USA" and her vast work in television, including her Emmy-winning doc "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib" and the more recent "Bobby Fischer Against the World."

Watch the trailer for the Nina Simone movie below, and remember to catch it on Netflix on June 26.
