Pharrell Williams in a move towards literacy!
'The Voice' judge, Pharrell Williams, teamed up with Penguin Young Readers and Firstbook, a nonprofit literacy organization to donate up to 50,000 books to underprivileged children, National Post reported.
The campaign was announced this week through Twitter. Hashtag #readHappy had been launched for fans so they can post any thoughts or images on why reading makes them happy. Every post leads to a donation.
"Every child on this planet deserves to experience the joy of reading," Pharrell said in a statement released through Penguin. "I'm humbled by the global success of "Happy," but especially in awe of the song's young fans. My collaboration with Penguin allows me to continue a dialogue with these children in a fresh, new way. We're both committed to feeding the curiosity of young minds with imagination."
Earlier this year, Pharrell also partnered with United Nations Foundation, with support from Google in a move to take action on the United Nations' International Day of Happiness, which aims to bring awareness to people about climate change.
The group took a stand and urged world leaders to take climate change seriously and take action to solve the problem for a better planet to live in.
"In a year where there is so much turmoil in the world, from social conflict to climate change, we need moments to stop and celebrate happiness," said Pharrell Williams through a statement, according to prweb. "Protecting our planet is fundamental to the pursuit of human happiness and that is why we have chosen to support Live Earth's movement to raise a billion voices for climate action. We believe that happiness can change the world."
"The UN Foundation is proud to join forces with Pharrell to support United Nations efforts for a better world," said Kathy Calvin, President and CEO of the UN Foundation.
