Sue Perkins Reveals She Had A Six-Year Relationship With A Man Until He Confessed He Was Gay

The Great British Bake Off presenter, Sue Perkins revealed she had a long term relationship with a man, despite being a lesbian.

Speaking with Telegraph while promoting the release of her memoir 'Spectacles,' Perkins, who is currently in a relationship with Anna Richardson confessed she had six year relationship with a man, who she calls Rob. They met in a production of Bizet's Carmen in school, where they both starred in the show.

She said the sweet moment ended after Rob admitted to her that he was actually gay and confessed he slept with other guys during their relationship. After she found out, she got worried and said they both took an HIV test in Florida.

Sue admitted that athough he was gay, she said she loved him very much. "'I really loved him, absolutely," she said.

Sue wrote in her memoir "We shepherded each other through that odd stage of life where you move from your mid-teens to your early twenties."

"He's such a good, kind man. To be a gay woman doesn't necessarily mean you couldn't have truly loved a man or truly enjoyed sleeping with men. Sometimes I think people are so absolutist and I wanted to pay proper respect to that relationship."

In her memoir, she revealed that she was in her 20s when she came forward to her parents and told them about her sexuality, but they were not surprised to hear it.

She wrote, "It's so stressful, there's so much adrenaline, and there's so much primal fear - even though I know my parents to be good people - that they're going to reject you. And then to get that response, I thought: 'Have I really, really taken myself on this extreme adrenal ride for that?" I was furious. And then delighted, obviously."

Sue's memoir, 'Spectacles' will be out on October 8.
