Oculus and Samsung have just announced the latest Gear VR mobile virtual reality headset. The new device will be globally shipped starting this November at the price of $99.
During the Oculus Connect event, Samsung executive Peter Koo stated that the Oculus-made Samsung Gear VR will be compatible with all the 2015 smartphone lines of Samsung like the Note 5, Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge and S6 Edge Plus.
The new device is said to have more advantageous features compared to the last mobile VR headset. In terms of weight, the new Gear VR is 22 % lighter, making the device easier to wear.
The new handset has also undergone some enhancements as its trackpad now has a tactile directional pad. If users can recall, the former device had a smooth trackpad which gave the user difficult time in knowing where its finger is really touching.
In addition, Samsung assured that the new Gear VR will have an enhanced gaming capacity. It is said that they will add a gaming feature named Oculus Arcade. The arcade will include classic games and will franchise from different game developers like Sega, Midway, and Bandai/Namco, which will be available in 3D.
New genres of games will also be added starting from puzzle-based exploration to Adventure time games.
The new Gear VR will provide a greater control over video streaming as they will now support Twitch and Netflix. For a more enhanced movie experience, Samsung is said to collaborate with some of the biggest movie industries like Vimeo, Hulu, Lionsgate, and Twentieth Century Fox.
On the other hand, one of the most anticipated device that everyone is expecting is the Oculus Rift. According to some, the device will be shipped starting the first quarter of 2016 and will be accompanied by an Xbox controller, which is the gaming standard of the Oculus.
