Ant-Man: Changed the Character of Evangeline Lilly

Adam McKay and Paul Rudd teamed up to rewrite the script of Ant-Man, while Edgar Wright revealed that he would split with Marvel and leave Ant-Man. And one of the many significant changes by the new writers was to change Evangeline Lilly's character as Hope Van Dyne - the character was supposed to be a role thats darker, a femme fatale and then tweaked to become a character with more emotion and humanity.

Evangeline Lilly stated, "Originally she was a very sort of film noir kind of character. She was almost, like what you would expect out of a legit graphic novel or a comic book - which I loved, by the way. I was sold. I was like, 'Yes, this is going to be so much fun to play a real caricature, almost, of this woman!"

A most common speculation emerged that the Hope Van Dyne character will follow  her mother's footsteps and suit up as the Wasp. But when Evangeline Lilly sat down recently to discuss Ant-Man, the actress was not sure of what her character might hold in the future.

Lilly loves the fact that the people can easily understand the concept of the movie, however, the actress revealed that before she made the Ant-Man film, she was new to the comic book series. The Ant-Man production gave big props for Evangeline Lilly as she brings action and heart to the movie

As the character of Evangeline Lilly plays the love interest of Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), the actress also had an extreme training to play the character convincingly.

Evangeline Lilly stated, "I felt like, 'Oh man, this movie is super accessible to everybody,'" and "even a 5-year-old child can follow this movie and love it and understand it and really get into it." Evangeline Lilly also said: "I had to learn how to punch like a boxer. I had no aptitude for that type of action!" she laughed. "I like the more graceful stuff. That took some training. That took some time. I would just get the giggles all the time. I would try to be serious and lift my fists up, and I felt like an idiot."
