Great news regarding the disease scare have broken out: the Spanish nurse with Ebola has been released by authorities in the Mediterranean country, but it seems she's not happy with the way things were handled in her case.
After first being hospitalized last October, the Spanish nurse with Ebola, Teresa Romero Ramos, has now been released from the Carlos III Hospital of Spain's capital city, Madrid. Even though she's leaving the facilities freed from the West Africa virus that's currently seeing its largest worldwide epidemic yet, Romero and her husband seem more than displeased with the way things went as far as the Madrid government was concerned.
As reported by The New York Times, the biggest complaint of the Spanish nurse with Ebola was the fact that the Madrid government sacrificed her dog, Excalibur, when she was first sent into the hospital that just released her.
According to Javier Limón, the husband of the Spanish nurse with Ebola, he and his wife were thinking of pursuing legal action against the Madrid authorities, since the childless couple thought of their pet as the son they never had. Excalibur was sacrificed on October, a fact that caused an uproar in news both inside the country and beyond its borders.
According to news outlet NPR at the time, authorities decided to euthanize the dog at the time because not only it had been in contact with the Spanish nurse with Ebola, but also due to the fact that there is little information as to how the disease might affect dogs as a species.
As a preventive measure, the Madrid authorities decided to simply sacrifice the pet, causing distress to the couple, who are thinking of taking up legal action.
In a recent statement before his wife's release, Limón stated to news outlets such as CNN that it had been irresponsible to sacrifice the dog, saying it could have been quarantined instead and studying him would have provided new information regarding dogs' response to Ebola.
