Hugh Jackman's finger was accidentally cut while on stage in the preview performance of the Broadway show, 'The River'.
"Wolverine", the razor-clawed superhero can cut and hurt himself at times. Jackman was on stage doing the preview performance of "The River" when he cut the tip of his finger Wednesday night.
Jackman plays the role of a fisherman in the Jez Butterworth stage play. The particular scene is about 25 minutes into the play and shows Jackman's character to chop a leak, onion, parsley and lemon. Hugh Jackman's finger was cut when he was chopping the lemons.
"He nicked his finger when he cut the lemon," says an audience member. The audience member had seen the play twice before and knew it wasn't part of the play. "He flinched surreptitiously. Then I saw streaks of blood on a towel," he added.
Ironically, it seems like the actor have foreshadowed this incident. Hugh Jackman's finger getting cut while on the show was one of the actor's concerns even before the play started.
"If I cut myself and start bleeding all over the place it might not be so silent," Jackman said a week before the preview performance began.
It was indeed a bloody sight when Hugh Jackman cuts his finger but the Tony-award winner is a pro. In a subtle and cool disposition, he got a towel and covered the finger and went on with the show.
The actor's spokesperson told the Daily News that the "Wolverine" star managed to sign autographs after the preview performance. Luckily, he did not need any stitches and can perform as scheduled on Thursday.
Hugh Jackman's finger was cut but "Hugh managed to improvise so well that when he got offstage, someone asked him if he's going to do that every night. He replied, "Hopefully not, I've only got five fingers on each hand," a source of Page Six said. "The River" opens on Nov. 16 at the Circle in the Square Theater.
