Sophia Loren's side eye photo of 1957 became the 'most famous side eye in paparazzi history'. Loren breaks the story behind it in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Sophia Loren side eye photo was taken 57 years ago with Loren and Jayne Mansfield in the frame at a Beverly Hills party dedicated to Loren. The photo became a famous photograph with Loren seated on a table with Sophia Loren side-eyed at Mansfield's breasts which threatens to slip out of her very low cut dress.
After all these years, Loren spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the much talked about photo through a phone interview from her Switzerland home. It was a party organized by Paramount for the breakthrough Italian movie star when she was still new to Hollywood. Mansfield was the last to come and for Loren "that was when it got amazing".
The blonde bombshell star was making a name in Hollywood that time and knows everyone in the party was watching her. She came right after Loren's table and sat down beside the Italian star, then 23 years old, and then happened the epic Sophia Loren side eye.
"Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I'm staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate. In my face you can see the fear. I'm so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow-BOOM!-and spill all over the table," Loren said.
There were a number of photos during that event particularly during Mansfield's arrival with Loren seen smiling but Sophia Loren's side eye photo was the only one showing her mood at the table.
Sophia Loren side eye epic photo gained so much attention and popularity that some people come to Loren and ask for an autograph in the photo but she never did it in respect for Mansfield who passed away in a car accident in 1967.
