Baby Sea Otter Video Creates Internet Mayhem – The Good Kind – Watch!

Baby Sea Otter - The little creature is at the Shedd Aquarium in California and receiving all the necessary care to be out in the wild when strong and healthy!

The mentioned video was released today and practically every person has gone crazy over it. The main character is a baby sea otter of 5 weeks that is taken to the aquarium and taught how to swim slowly.

To be completely fair, while watching it, anyone's heart simply melts. The baby sea otter cries, and scarily almost sounds like a child and whines at times. But when put in the water, she swims on her back and relaxes. It's quite wonderful.

"Pup 681," like the little one is called now, was found on Sept. 30 by a beachgoer who was taking an evening stroll, LA Times noted. Apparently, this person heard the pup cry and notified the marine officials.

Still, dark was falling and it was a remote location, the Coastways Beach between Santa Cruz and San Mateo, so nothing could be done then. The next day during the morning, the baby sea otter was taken to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

The little otter weighed 1 kg when she was found, which was considered seriously underweight. So, the first and most important mission for the Sea Otter Program was to get the baby sea otter fatter.

"This meant it was critical that we begin to get calories into her as quickly as possible," Karl Meyer, an animal care coordinator for the Sea Otter Program said and the Chicago Tribune noted.

After four weeks, the small one was looking better and the Monterey Bay Aquarium reached out to the other aquariums to take her. Shedd Aquarium volunteered and now, it's the newest member there.

At the moment, the baby sea otter is weighing 6 pounds. She also has people looking after her the entire day.

"It truly takes a village to rehabilitate a young sea otter. Our animal care team is teaching the pup how to be an otter," Tim Binder, the aquarium's vice president said.

The truth is that the sea otter is part of a program because the species hasn't come out of extinction yet. There are more every time, but it's an endangered species.

The reasons behind the progressive disappearance in the past includes the killing of the sea otter for its pelt and even in the animal world, sea otters are victims to sharks.

Even if there isn't a threat against them, they face shortage of food. Hence, the malnutrition of the baby sea otter found. Although, she had been separated from her mother and as a baby, it wouldn't have had a chance to survive on her own either way.

Due to these facts, that the Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office shares, the sea otter is taking incredibly serious. The species must continue. It would be a shame not to see baby sea otters like the one in the video anymore.
