February 13th has been dubbed Galentine's Day and was created for women to celebrate the women in their life. Amy Poehler is credited with inventing Galentine's Day and it got so hot you can now buy Galentine's Day swag at Walmart.
Three Simple Cocktails Perfect For Galentine's Day
We talked to Nell Mellon, boss at NYC mixology staple Otto's Shrunken Head, about what she'd serve her posse. "Girl Scouts taught me to make new friends and keep old ones so I'm glad that there are a variety of old and new ladies in my life. This got me thinking of what I could create for my girlfriends to celebrate being us. This is what I'd serve."
Hibiscus Mule
Ingredients
2 oz Tito's vodka
2 oz hibiscus syrup - (simple syrup with hibiscus flowers - best to premake)
4 oz Barrits ginger beer
Squeeze of lemon
Directions
Fill the shaker with vodka, hibiscus syrup, and a squeeze of lemon. Shake and tatse. If you'd like a more pronounced hibiscus flavor, just add a little more syrup and shake again. Strain into a 10-12oz glass. Top with ginger beer. Add lemon wedge for garnish.
Frozen Strawberry Banana Daiquiri
Ingredients
2 oz fresh or frozen strawberries (I like frozen)
2 oz fresh or frozen bananas (fresh is easier)
2 oz Bacardi white rum or dark/spiced rum if you want fuller flavor
1-2 cups ice
You can either mix all the ingredients, or you can blens the bananas and strawberries separately to create a layered parfait look. Before you pour, run a lime wedge across the rim of the glass. Dip the rim in sugar. If mixing the ingredients, put everything in a blender and process until smooth. If going for a parfait, blend each flavor separately and slowly pour each flavor into the glass one at a time to layer. Garnish with a strawberry.
Cherry Limeade
Ingredients
2 oz Cruzan Cherry Rum
1/2 oz grenadine
1-3 Tillen Farms Bada Bing Cherries
1/2 oz lime juice
7 Up, Sprite, or seltzer if avoiding extra sugar
Directions
Fill your shaker with ice, rum, grenadine, and lime juice. Shake and strain over an ice-filled 12 oz glass. Top with 7 Up, sprite or seltzer. Garnish with lime and cherry.
And don't forget to drink some "Responsibility Water" if you have to wake up early the next day. Cheers!
