People Still Love Bacon Despite Being Linked to Cancer: Survey

Months ago, scientists from a health organization found out that bacon increases the risk of cancer. Despite their findings and taking the media by storm, it has done nothing to discourage the bacon-loving masses to put it on their plates.

Apart from short and temporary lulls in terms of sales in the first few weeks after the results of the studies were released, it has done minimal impact to sellers of the fatty pork meat. Furthermore, a number of sources suggest that its status quo has returned to normal, now that news of it being linked to cancer has died down.

According to an interview with Tech Insider, Hormel Foods stated bacon sales have remained steady in the past few months

"We have not seen an impact," said Nick G. Schweitzer, Hormel Foods meat products marketing manager, told Tech Insider. "Hormel Black Label bacon products continue to be very popular with consumers across the country."

Morgan Stanley, a financial firm, released a report which suggested bacon sales are continuing to grow.

"The bacon business appears to be immune to the consumer trend toward healthier cuisine," wrote Ellen Zentner, chief economist of the firm, was quoted in saying in a report.

Furthermore, Joel Crews, editor-in-chief of Meat+Poultry, told Tech Insider that meat processors wished they could breed pigs with two bellies.

"We hear processors joke all the time saying, 'If we could just breed a hog with two bellies...,'" he said. "So to say the demand for bacon is on the decline is not something we are seeing here on the front lines of the industry."

He also mentioned processing plants are finding it hard to meet the high demand for bacon, insinuating that companies are continually investing heavily to keep up with the industry.

Though the release of the study did have an impact in consumers' immediate purchasing decisions, people in the meat industry believe the talk of bacon causing cancer is now at the back of the public's minds.
