Starbucks addicts who have a very specific preference for latte might have grumbled on more than a few occasions why the drink is so high priced, causing a severe limitation on the number cups they can have (afford) in a day. But they'll be breathing a sigh of relief once they get to see the latest price compilation of the Starbucks latte covering 30 countries around the world.
The list, compiled by Thrillist writer Matt Meltzer, shows the latte's prices in 30 different countries as of February 19, 2016 converted into US dollars of course. It has generated some buzz lately which just goes to show how much people love anything Starbucks maybe because it's the perfect place for that almost obligatory morning coffee selfies.
Topping the list, the most expensive Starbucks latte being offered is in Zurich, Switzerland where one may buy a latte grande for $6.96. Obviously, this is not the perfect place for latte lovers with not so deep pockets but hey, this is Switzerland, the land of famous Swiss private banks. A $6.96 priced latte is cheap for these moneyed bankers.
Following very closely on the list is the international tourist destination Cancun, Mexico at second place. One can enjoy a Starbucks latte grande for $6.07 amidst a balmy, tropical ambience. It's probably because of all those high-end resorts and their tourists willing to buy just about anything without minding the price too much. But it's vacation time; nobody is expected to be frugal.
Looking at the list, the Europeans have it worst with six European countries included in the top ten: Norway (3rd) $5.95, Belgium (4th) $5.90, Romania (5th) $5.40, Germany (6th) $5.28 and Netherlands (10th) $4.94.
Asian Starbuck latte prices vary greatly with Hongkong managing to rank 8th at $5.14 while Manila was ranked the lowest priced Asian location at $2.94 a grande.
United States, Starbucks' birthplace, is represented by Miami where a grande costs $5.08 placing it at 9th.
At this point, most people are probably wondering where the cheapest Starbucks latte can be found. People who love the beach better head to Rio de Janeiro where the biggest carnival in the world and a $1.49 priced Starbucks latte grande await.
