A recent firm press release from the Food and Drug Administration announced that the Swinomish Fish Company is recalling all salmon bacon catches due to a possible health risk.
The voluntary recall includes the Swinomish Fish Company's Traditional and Peppered flavored packages of Native Catch Salmon Bacon.
The batch may have been potentially contaminated by Clostridium botulinum, a life threatening bacteria.
Consumers are warned to dispose the product if they have purchased the same brand and variety. The company stresses that the food product needs to be disposed even if the product still looks good or does not have any foul smell.
The specific contaminated batch has the Best By date of January 1, 2016 and March 16, 2016. The batch had been distributed in the West Washington and Florida regions on August 10 until December 11.
The Native Catch Salmon Bacon products subject to this recall are:
- Peppered flavor with UPC # 7 83583 27965 9, packaged in 8 ounce & 14 ounce clear vacuum bag
- Traditional flavor with UPC # 7 51778 15900 0, packaged in 8 ounce and 14 ounce clear vacuum bag
The company has already advised and notified all suppliers, distributors and retail outlets to remove the products off their shelves.
If you have ingested the product and suspect you have botulism, then you should have exhibited the following food poisoning symptoms:
- weakness or general malaise
- dizziness
- blurry or double vision
- have trouble swallowing and talking
- difficulty in breathing
- constipation
- and muscle weakness
Consumers are adivsed to check the bags for the Best By dates affected prior to purchasing. If you suspect you have botulism, it's best to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
