A free 32-inch Samsung SSNLF -6.82% HDTV will be given to all consumers who purchase a unit of Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, or the Note 5 from US retailer Best Buy (NASDAQ: BBY). The store, which is fighting its corner against such online shops as Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) through its streamlined presence and strengthened online deals, very recently also offered the 16GB variants of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone 6s for an unbelievable $1. Accompanying this deal is a $100 discount on Apple Watches.
The special giveaway is Samsung's 720p-resolution UN32J4000 model, which is regularly priced at $230 and is now offered at a markdown of $200. The condition involved for receiving this freebie is the activation of the purchased handset under either a two-year contract or a monthly lease with providers Verizon (NASDAQ: VZ), AT&T ((NASDAQ: T), or Sprint (NASDAQ: S).
Best Buy's website announcement says the offer stands till January 2016 for every full purchase or lease of a Samsung smartphone.
Forecast on sales increase due to this deal is largely optimistic given that Samsung as the largest mobile phone maker globally is only growing ever more popularity. Proof is the 84.5 million units that the manufacturer distributed worldwide in the later part of this year, which is a 6.1% jump from figures of the previous year. The brand's Galaxy line remains hot commodity with the Galaxy S6 devices serving seriously strong competition to Apple's iPhone.
Skeptics claim to see through this move, saying that this is more strategy than benevolence on Best Buy's part in view of the possible release of Samsung Galaxy S7 in March 2016. If it is indeed a strategy to move stocks and dispose of S6 units on the retailer's part, it is a much needed strategy. Despite a $1.2 billion profit by January 2015, investors remain unimpressed.
