Japan’s Gummy Bug Sweets: A Coffee Shop In The Asian Country Sells Amazingly Realistic Worm Sweets

If you're visiting Japan at the moment and you're already concerned with Halloween treats (and why wouldn't you?), there's a great option for you: Japan's gummy bug sweets. They're originally from a small coffee shop called Akai Tento no Koohii Ten (The Red Tent Coffee Shop), located in a small fishing harbor in the Aomori Prefecture, as Metro reports.

Although the small marketplace originally just served coffee, it has become notorious in the region for a new product: Japan's gummy bug sweets, the newest fad in the country. Visitors of the coffee shop can take a pick from the various

Japan's gummy bug sweets have one particular feature that sets them apart from every other gummy warms around the world: they actually look incredibly realistic. Japan's gummy bug sweets are all hand-made and shaped as real species of worms and larvae, some from their native Japan; however, instead of being filled with goo and bug's insides, they come in different fruity flavors like blueberry or yogurt.

Visitors of the small coffee shop can pick from the various realistic-looking bugs to fill their sugary needs. Among the different presentations are the rhinoceros beetle larvae (which are named Kabutomushi Youchuu Gumi in the Red Tent Coffee Shop), which are actually yogurt-flavored and have a filling of blueberry jam; also available is the fluoro Swallowtail caterpillar sweet.

While on the outside they look like the crawly things nightmares are made of, they're supposed to be quite tasty and have gathered a lot of attention in the Asian country, where the shop and its sweets have even appeared on national television.

Japan's gummy bug sweets have grown steadily popular over time, and they can be purchased in Yahoo Japan - although they are currently out of stock. However, if the plan is to use them for Halloween, you or any of your friends that are visiting Japan until then still have time!
