The Barbie doll of the American director, screenwriter and film marketer - Ava DuVernay, was sold out on the website of the toy company 'Mattel' minutes after the Barbie doll first went on sale.
Mattel created earlier this year a one-of-a-kind DuVernay doll as one of the six dolls rooted on inspirational females in the entertainment industry. The other five dolls were the American actress and singer-songwriter - Emmy Rossum, the Tony Award winner actress - Kristin Chenoweth, Trisha Yearwood ('How Do I Live' singer), the 5 year old designer Sydney "Mayhem" Keiser and the fashion editor - Eva Chen. All six original dolls were auctioned off for charity.
The doll of the director of the American historical drama film - Selma, was met with particular excitement, with Ava DuVernay's twitter followers demanding for Mattel to make the doll - which comes with a director's chair with Ava DuVernay's name on it
Ava DuVernay formally declared the sale of the Ava Barbie on her Twitter account on Sunday, "Tomorrow this Ava Barbie goes on sale for Christmas for the reason that enough people asked Mattel to do so." And director Ava DuVernay added in another Twitter post that all proceeds will be donated to the charities - Witness and Color of Change.
However, the American multinational toy manufacturing company - Mattel, confirmed in a Tweet on December 6, that the dolls would be available for purchase on December 7, and that the company would be providing further information about where to purchase the dolls. Then on Monday at 10 a.m. PT, Mattel announced that the dolls will go on sale at TheBarbieCollection.com
But the dolls didn't last long, with the director tweeting at 10:26 a.m. PT, "Sold out on Barbie collection, I'm told. More available at Amazon. What the hell is going on? #bananas #nuts #whoa"
And the Ava Barbie was indeed briefly available for pre-order at the Electronic commerce company - Amazon.
