Darrell Hammond’s Bill Clinton Impersonation Isn’t All He Is About: NBC Confirms He Will Be New SNL Announcer

After having broken the record of the longest tenure in Saturday Night Live's History, Darrell Hammond's Bill Clinton will go back to the show - sort of. The legendary comedian will be the new voice of SNL announcements, as long-standing announcer Don Pardo passed away last month after 39 years announcing the show and a 70-year tenure with NBC.

While Darrell Hammond's Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Sean Connery impersonations are the most famous and best remembered from his long tenure on the show, the multitalented man actually had announced SNL in the past, when he was working on the show and Pardo called in sick, as The New York Times writes.

Darrel Hammond's Bill Clinton impression among many others (his was one of the most popular Clinton impressions on the show, after that of Phil Hartman in the late 80s and early 90s), made the comedian one of the most prolific performers in Saturday Night Live's history. He even impersonated the late Don Pardo on the rare occasion, a task he performed besides that of filling in for him sometimes - the most notable example was in 1999, as he joked around with the night's host, Dawson's Creek's James Vanderbeek, to such perfection that Pardo's sister-in-law congratulated him the next day for his funny turn as a comedian in the show the night before.

After his 14-year tenure in SNL, Hammond has been mostly off the radar, having starred in few television shows and films since he left the show in 2009, after the show's 34th season.

Lorne Michael, the producer of the show, told USA Today that there had been many ideas to replace Pardo's role, many of which meant having others impersonate the famous announcer; however, he decided to take a different direction with Hammond, who might bring the show a new twist.

It is unclear whether Darrell Hammond's Bill Clinton, Sean Connery or even Donald Trump impressions will ever make an appearance again; however, as the new announcer is also a comedian, it does seem like a possibility for the show.
