Chris Brown Cancels Australia Tour Because of Rihanna Assault

Chris Brown is trying to stay out of trouble, but it seems as though his past is still coming back and giving him some trouble.

The 26-year-old singer already planned a tour for Australia and New Zealand, which was scheduled for this month. Unfortunately, those plans have reportedly been cancelled.

According to Billboard: "A statement from Brown's Australian One Hell of a Night tour promoter, issued Tuesday, confirmed Australian shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane on Dec. 9-16 will not take place."

Back in September, reports surfaced that the Australian government rejected Chris Brown's visa application - which was because of "character grounds."

Apparently, this was because of his history with domestic violence -- specifically his 2009 altercation with ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

However, the announcement of the tour's cancellation didn't mention the denied visa approval. Complex reports:

"The tour cancelation announcement noticeably didn't cite the rejected visa application and promised to double down on rescheduled performance dates. 'Mr. Brown and the promoters both remain positive that the tour will take place in the near future,' a statement from the promoter said. 'Mr. Brown wishes to express his deepest gratitude to the fans for their support and looks forward to a successful tour in the near future.'"

Australian feminist groups, in addition to former Immigration Minister Michaelia Cash, "called his visa status into questions prior to the December 2015 dates," as reported by Rolling Stone.

Michaelia Cash, who is now Australia's Minister for Women, recently said (via ABC News):

"People need to understand if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you: 'You cannot come in because you are not of the character we expect in Australia."

As it turns out, Chris Brown's New Zealand visa was also under consideration. But after his denial in Australia, Brown ended up withdrawing his New Zealand application.
