Is the Quantity of Sleep More Important Than the Quality?

People are often so worked up doing things to improve the quality of their sleep. They are so focused on preparing themselves for bed. They've stopped drinking coffee late in the day, avoid exercising at night, have started using earplugs and manage the temperature and light in the bedroom.

However, despite these efforts, they're still unable to sleep well. Part of the reason is because they are not really paying much attention at what they're doing during the day and how they're doing it.

Running and rushing from one thing to another has been found to be very common in today's society. People often don't have much time to waste, every minute of every day accounted for, crossing the list out of our to-do list.

This stereotype affects the business world, as well as in other areas greatly. Women in today's society have the pressure of being expected to be successful both at work and their family life, but they still find time to do millions of things in their downtime, and manage their infinite responsibilities.

These women are often branded as supermoms, and so many women strive so hard to be like them. However, research has shown that these superwomen have a higher risk of depression.

Another group which is usually commonly seen in the clinical practice are small, medium enterprise business owners or entrepreneurs who don't get enough sleep. Sometimes you'd recognize these people having a burn out, but they wait for a dramatic turn of events like developing amnesia before they seek professional help.

In her book Thrive, Arianna Huffington gave a very good description of predictable consequences of having the above mentioned lifestyle. She shared her tale of collapsing with exhaustion and her reflection of just how self-destructive her previous behavior of never switching off had been telling.

In conclusion, sleep is not just about an activity that needs to be done at night. A better quality snooze means you make sure that you're in excellent physical and mental health. It's also important to stop over-analyzing your sleep as that may lead to bigger problems.
