Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz have been the faces of the crime procedural dramedy for a full decade, with Zooey Deschanel's sister becoming a household name thanks to the series - but now, both "Bones" actors are suing the company that produces the show for millions of dollars.
The two main "Bones" actors have officially joined executive producer Kathy Reichs after producer Barry Josephson filed a lawsuit against 20th Century Fox; all of these people claim the major producing company has cheated them out of millions of dollars from the show's profits, as it's well into its eleventh season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two "Bones" actors have filed a second lawsuit against the network, claiming 20th Century Fox Television, the Fox network and all affiliated companies have been shortchanged for "tens of millions" in the past years, having seen "zero profits" even though the show has become the longest-running drama in the network's history.
Deadline reports that, upon requesting documents from Fox in regards of the show's profits, the "Bones" actors confirmed their suspicions that they'd been cheated out of millions of dollars, as apparently there have been over $100 million in gross revenues and alleged expenses that Fox hasn't paid up.
"The documents that 20th TV did provide confirmed Plaintiffs' suspicions and showed that they were being cheated out of more than $100 million in gross revenues and being overcharged many additional millions of dollars in alleged expenses," reads the lawsuit filed by the two main "Bones" actors.
According to The New York Daily News, Deschanel and Boreanaz claim that even though the show was considered Fox's "golden child," its stars and producers were misallocating funds and over 20 accounting violations with $100 million in underreported received in what appears to be a major internal corruption case.
So far, Fox has made no comment on the "Bones" actors' lawsuit.
