The undead provide a bloody and exciting new twist to the classic Jane Austen novel!
'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' is the upcoming supernatural film based on the 2009 parody novel by Seth Grahame-Smith that pits Elizabeth Bennet against flesh-eating zombies during Regency era England. Lionsgate UK has just unleashed the international trailer featuring Lily James as the heroine and Sam Riley as Mr. Darcy.
The synopsis for the film reads as follows:
"A mysterious plague has fallen upon 19th century England, the land is overrun with the undead and feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet [Lily James] is a master of martial arts and weaponry. Casting aside personal and social prejudices, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy [Sam Riley] must unite on the blood-soaked battlefield to rid the country of the zombie menace and discover their true love for one another."
The trailer also shows that Elizabeth and her four sisters are well-trained warriors, as their father (former 'Game of Thrones' star Charles Dance) explains, "My daughters are trained for battle, sir, not the kitchen." Elizabeth only has her mind set on killing zombies. "I shall never relinquish my sword for a ring," she tells her sister, who responds, "For the right man, you will." Elizabeth disagrees, "The right man wouldn't ask me to."
The international trailer for 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' also offers a glimpse at 'Game of Thrones' actress Lena Headey as the eyepatch-wearing Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Also a skilled warrior, she offers the heroine a strange compliment: "I do not know which I admire more, Elizabeth Bennet: your skill as a warrior or your resolve as a woman."
'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' also stars Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote, Douglas Boothe, Suki Waterhouse and former 'Doctor Who' star Matt Smith. The film is scheduled for release on February 5, 2016.
