Chris Hemsworth Urged Marvel to Cast Tom Holland as Spider-Man

With the internet ablaze over the recent reveal of the first trailer for Marvel's Captain America: Civil War, the spotlight is now shining brightly on young Tom Holland.

The 19-year old actor was a surprising pick for Spider-Man when the news was announced earlier this year. Though the wall-crawler wasn't present in this first teaser, his presence in the Civil War has already been confirmed. The preview has many wondering what Spidey's role in the film will be, and has renewed talk of whether or not Holland is the right man for the role.

According to Chris Hemsworth, Marvel made the right choice. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend to promote his new film In the Heart of the Sea, which coincidentally, also stars Holland, the Australian actor spoke highly of his new co-star and future Avengers partner, saying that he urged studio to select Holland for the role.

"I ran into the guys when he was auditioning for Spider-Man, I ran into the guys at Marvel and said, 'Look, you're not going to meet a more appreciative and hard-working, talented actor, and especially, for his age." Said Hemsworth.

Hemsworth said that Holland is a huge comic book fan and passionate actor.

"I was sort of blown away by that, and the amount of integrity and precision he has with his acting. But, he is a true fan of it. We were talking about comic books at length when we were doing [Heart], and he would express how he grew up on Spider-Man and loved it and so on."

Very high praise for the fresh faced Holland.

To see whether Holland lives up to the hype, we'll have to wait until May, 6, 2016 when Civil War hits theatres.

For now, he and Hemsworth can be seen In the Heart of the Sea, which opens December 11.
